Huskies sweep Vikings in weekend series

CAMROSE, AB - In an afternoon clash, the Augustana Vikings fell 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-22) for the second day in a row to the visiting Keyano College Huskies, Saturday afternoon at Augustana Gym.

With the win, the Huskies sweep the weekend series and improve to an 8-2 record on the season, strong enough to secure first place in the ACAC North Division standing. In addition, the Huskies also continue their impressive win streak, extending it to 8 games, after dropping their first two matches of the season to the King's College Eagles.

Meanwhile, the Vikings remain just two points ahead of the Concordia Thunder for last place in the north, after dropping their fifth straight game this season.

Leading the charge to a three-set victory was fourth-year outside hitter Travis Walls with seven kills on nine attacks and three digs. Teammate Nikola Sreckovic with 29 assists.

Across the court, plenty of Vikings chipped in to help, but it was Jake Christensen who managed to find the most success with a .667 kill percentage, going two of three. Benn Linsley lent a hand with 13 assists.

Throughout the game, the home side had trouble getting anything going on the offense with just 15 successful kills on the night, including just three in the first set, while the Huskies rallied to a team .529 kill percentage to take the first set, 25-14.

Not looking to change their game plan the Huskies cruised to a quick 25-17 second set win, finding themselves just one set away from a weekend sweep.

Coming out of the break with plenty of fire left, the visitors have their most successful set of the match with 12 kills and zero errors to take the set 25-22 and the match.

Next weekend, the Vikings will take on the Lakeland Rustlers (3-6) in a home-and-home series, while the Huskies will host the NAIT Ooks for three games next weekend on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Catch all the action on ACACTV.
