Steve started his journey with Vikings Curling in 2001 as a student-athlete and what started out as a mental break from studying turned into a four-year commitment bordering on obsession. Playing not only for Augustana, he was at the rink nightly filling in on local teams and, as a Camrose local, filled in during semester break for all the Vikings teams making sure no local league games were forfeited.
After moving away to pursue a degree in education, and teach for a couple of years, Steve returned to Camrose for work and immediately fell back into the curling family. He was quickly approached to be an assistant coach at Augustana. After several years, and several trips across Alberta and a memorable trip to Fredericton, NB for CCAA Nationals, Steve decided it was time to dedicate more time to his family as he, and his wife Jayla, were expecting twin girls. Now that Hannah and Abigail are older, curling called him back for a third stint as a Viking and picked up right where it left off with a CCAA National appearance in Fredericton, NB in 2024.
As curling is a team sport, his focus is on creating a solid team dynamic with all players pulling in the same direction. From there, success on the ice will follow.
