CAMROSE, AB- The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) cross-country season officially got underway on September 6, as the Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder welcomed teams to Gold Bar Park for Running Room Grand Prix #1. What began as a cool, clear morning quickly turned into a warm afternoon, testing the Vikings athletes' stamina on a demanding course. From the opening race through to the men's 8 km finale, competitors pushed hard, digging deep in the final stretches and setting the tone for an exciting season ahead.
The women's 6 km saw a strong performance from the Vikings' Allyson Thain, who placed 10th overall with a time of 26:46, averaging a quick 4:28 pace. Her top-10 result highlighted her readiness for the season and gave the Vikings early momentum as they prepare for the next stop on the series in Lethbridge on September 20.
The Vikings athletes also delivered solid efforts throughout the day. In the women's division, Morgan Elaschuk ended the day with a 23rd-place finish (29:23), followed by Chloe Funnell in 26th (29:44), Kali Skauge in 32nd (31:35), and Cassia Teske in 46th (45:06). On the men's side, Nicholas Taylor cracked the top 15 with a time of 32:43, while Kunlin Ye placed 21st in 34:29 and Avry Niven rounded out the group at 39:30 for 31st place.
