Vikings Athletics is seeking Student Trainers to work with various teams for the 2025-26 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) season.
This role will see you work day-to-day directly with a Vikings varsity sport program to assist the Athletic Therapy Coordinator in the prevention, management and care of illness and injury to our Varsity Athletes. This role will give you the opportunity to learn from and work with an interdisciplinary team of Physiotherapists, Sports & Exercise Medicine Physicians, Strength & Conditioning Specialists, Mental Health Specialists, and more!
These placements are set to begin in late August 2025 and could run until March 2026 (sport dependent).
Role Responsibilities:

Attending practices, games, and any other team events that may be required

Approximately 10-14 hours weekly

Showing up early to practices and games to brace and tape (ankles, thumbs, knees, etc.) and staying late after practice & games to assist in athlete wellness management

Familiarization and potential execution of Augustana Athletics Emergency Action Plan

Identify, communicate, and document any incidents/injuries that may occur in a timely manner to the appropriate staff (coaches, physiotherapist, athletic administration)

Conducting and collecting initial Sport Concussion Assessment Tool (SCAT) baseline scores and pre-participation evaluations

Familiarization and potential implementation of Vikings Athletics post-concussion protocols

Manage and organize the team medical kit

Attend monthly check-ins with the Vikings Head Therapist

Other miscellaneous duties
Qualifications:
-
Must be enrolled as a student at the University of Alberta - Augustana
-
Excellent written and oral communication skills
-
Must be available for games and attend training sessions
-
Beneficial, but not required at the start of employment, Standard First Aid and CPR.
