CAMROSE, AB - After a dominant weekend sweep against the NWP Wolves, veteran guard Jonathan Gomes has been named Vikings Athlete of the Week, delivering a senior-night performance that perfectly showcased his experience, leadership, and elite shooting ability.
Gomes set the tone on Friday night, contributing an efficient and well-rounded performance with 16 points while adding two rebounds, two assists, and two steals. His ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor helped the Augustana Vikings control the pace early in the weekend series and establish momentum.
He followed that up with an unforgettable showing on Saturday, turning in one of his most impressive performances of the season. Gomes caught fire from beyond the arc, shooting an outstanding 8-for-15 from three-point range en route to a game-high 32 points. He also added two assists and a steal, consistently stretching the defence and delivering timely buckets when his team needed them most.
Across the weekend, Gomes demonstrated why he is regarded as one of the league’s most dangerous perimeter shooters. His composure, shot selection, and ability to rise in big moments were on full display, making his senior night one to remember and providing a major boost to the Vikings during a critical stretch of the season.
With performances like this, Jonathan Gomes continues to leave his mark as a veteran leader and proven scorer—earning Vikings Athlete of the Week honours in fitting fashion.
