Camrose, AB - University of Alberta Augustana is proud to announce John Dedrick as the new women's basketball coach. Dedrick comes from an impressive background of post-secondary coaching, including having been an assistant coach with the University of Alberta Pandas and the Grant MacEwan Griffins women's team.
14 of his 26 years of coaching basketball have been in building the Women's program at Saint Albert Catholic High School (SACHS) where his teams have won several provincial championships, Most. recently the 2019 4A Women's Championship. Many of his players have moved on to USPORT or ACAC with some of those players eventually landing on Vikings rosters (both previously and currently). His connections with the Vikings teams are even more pronounced—Dedrick's daughter, Sarah, currently plays for our women's volleyball team.
John is also a graduate of the University of Alberta, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts and then an After Degree in a Bachelor of Education. He has been a teacher for more than 25 years and was the Athletic Director for 10 of those years at SACHS. He has taught a multitude of subjects within the Greater St. Alberta Catholic School Board in subjects such as social studies, physical education, sports performance fitness, sports medicine, work experience and psychology.
In addition to his aformentioned teaching duties, John is a member of the Alberta
Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association, a former ranking member of the ASAA, Co-creator of Panthhawks Basketball Academy for Girls and has worked with the National Coaching Certification Program as a coach evaluator and presenter at local teachers conventions.
