Alyssia Mattman is from Vancouver, British Columbia, and is in her first year with the Vikings cross country ski team. She is enrolled in Bachelor of Science, majoring in Environmental Science. She hopes to one day work in environmental policy analysis. Alyssia chose to come to Augustana because of the small, friendly community that it is home to, as well as the opportunities in outdoor education that it offers.
In high school, Alyssia played basketball, soccer, and competed in swimming, dragon boating and cross country running. She was also an avid trail runner, and placed second in the under 20 women’s category in the 2016 Canadian Mountain Running Championships. In addition, she made the honour roll in grades nine through twelve, and played classical guitar. She won gold at the Kiwanis Music Festival in 2018 in the category of classical guitar.
When she is not skiing, you can find her cycling, painting, or lighting up the dance floor. Her favourite book is Monkey Beach, her favourite movie is Trainspotting, and she enjoys Korean food.
One of her favourite inspirational quotes is: “Everything will be okay in the end. If it’s not okay, it’s not the end.” -John Lennon
